Our Chorus Director is Rosalind Johnson. Rosalind has been singing a cappella since she was a teenager and began her barbershop career singing in Phoenix Chorus, in Potton, and the LABBS Youth Chorus. In 2010, on moving to Scotland, she joined Forth Valley Chorus. She has enjoyed tremendous success with them, winning four Sweet Adelines Region 31 championships with them so far in 2011, 2013, 2016 and 2018, competing at International in 2012, 2014, 2017 and in 2019, achieving an International Top Ten Medal in New Orleans in 2019. Rosalind has also won two regional Top Five medals with her quartets SPARK (2016) and Element (2018).

She took on what she describes as her greatest challenge in September 2016 when she was persuaded by our retiring Chorus Director, Nick Hayes, to apply for the post of Chorus Director with the Rolling Hills, but says that she does not regret it for a moment. Rosalind says Tuesday night rehearsals are the highlight of her week! Since taking over the baton from Nick she has directed us in two sell out Fringe Shows, singing mainly songs that she arranged, and led us to our highest ever place at National Convention.

Since 2018 Rosalind has been on the judging panel for the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella UK quarterfinals, and in 2019 for the Scottish A Cappella Championships. Rosalind has had the pleasure of coaching top University A Cappella groups Northern Lights from Durham University and Licence to Trill from the University of Edinburgh. She is also the Musical Director of the BABS Mixed Youth Chorus. In 2021 Rosalind accepted an appointment to the Sweet Adelines International Region 31 Faculty and is excited about the opportunity to work with this outstanding team to deliver Barbershop education across the UK and the Netherlands.

Rosalind sings with Forth Valley Chorus, where she is Assistant Director and Baritone Section Leader, and also sings with two friends from Forth Valley, Kate Porter and Carole-Anne Burnett, in an a cappella trio called Black Velvet for whom she has created more than 70 custom arrangements. As well as arranging songs for the Rolling Hills Chorus, Rosalind also creates custom arrangements for various other groups, including Forth Valley for whom she arranged two of the songs that they performed in their finals package in New Orleans. She is currently working on new material for several groups, including Forth Valley’s next International Finals Package.
